Gamers React Negatively To 1.6 Patch

Posted Monday 27 April 2009 By: Yourcatch22 | Counter-Strike | Comments [ 1 ]

Over the past week, many gamers have publicly spoken out against the recent Counter-Strike 1.6 update and the effects it has had on the competitive gaming world. The patch, which aimed to fix silent crouch hopping (aka Russian Walking Exploit in the release), has resulted in giving a jumping sound to any in-game jump movement. While this may seem like a minor change, in the world of competitive gaming, the effects have forced many players to drastically alter their game play. Even despite that many players had considered silent crouch hopping a bug that needed to be fixed, the unintended results of the patch have led many to demand a rollback patch from Valve to remedy the situation.

GotFrag recently took the opportunity to sit down with several professional players and managers to get their reactions to the update. Here's a snippet below from Alex Garfield, Team EG Owner/Manager, and for more player reactions, checkout the Complete Article Here.

"Alex Garfield
Owner/Manager Team EG

"I think that any potential positives that have come via fixing the exploit (if you're even of the opinion that it needed to be fixed in the first place) have been easily outweighed by the bugginess that came along with the "fix." We now have movement sounds being made and heard in situations that are completely absurd from a competitive standpoint."

CEVO Tournament Interview

Posted Thursday 19 February 2009 By: Yourcatch22 | General Esports | Post a comment

After a very disappointing CEVO Alienware tournament, including allegations of poor tournament management and unpaid prize money, GotFrag sat down with Moe Assad, a gamer at the tournament, to discuss what went wrong. While no official word has come from CEVO or Igames, the interview gives some interesting insight into what happened at the event. You can checkout a snippet below, or checkout the Full Interview Here.

"Its public information that you feel quite a bit went wrong with the CEVO Alienware tournament, could you please explain specifically what happened?

I'm going to be plain and honest about CEVO and Alienware. I believe that iGames (the people who ran the tournament) and mainly Ferguson - the only admin for the whole tournament - just had no idea what they were doing. That's right, over 15k in prize money with only one admin. There are so many details I can go into about how flawed the rules were, mainly because the rules were all meant for 1.6 and as anyone knows 1.6 and source are in many ways different.

What i don't understand is how Alienware would put this much money up for grabs in an online tournament, maybe they thought that CEVO, being the respected league it is, would be willing to help run it smoothly, but i can tell you first hand that CEVO did absolutely nothing to help the tournament. Celone himself told me "we cant do anything" about any rules or dispute, and that it was all up to the iGames guy who had no clue and openly admitted to having no clue about how to run the tourney."
